IKA® circulators and chillers Safety. Power. Intelligence.

Oct 07 2014

IKA® offers a wide range of high-precision temperature control systems. The product portfolio includes immersion circulators, bridge thermostats, heating bath circulators and recirculating chiller. All units of the IKA thermostats series meet the highest requirements in the areas of safety, power and intelligence.

Safety
During the development of these devices, special attention was paid to safe work and user safety. The thoughtful and ergonomic design of all devices ensures an easy and comfortable handling of the IKA thermostats.

Handles, grips, wheels and carrying handles enable to transport and operate the devices safely and easily. The integrated stand of the compact immersion circulator ICC ensures stability and protects the float and radiator.

Furthermore the safe operation of the equipment is ensured by individually adjustable limits. For example, the thermal fluid used for the temperature control can be selected directly from the menu. Then the temperature is automatically limited to the preset critical values of the fluid. Moreover, within these (default) limits there is the possibility to manually adjust the minimum and maximum temperature. The safety temperature can be set by using the tool and can be adjusted precisely by showing the exact value on the display. The safety temperature is monitored by an independent temperature sensor.

Visual and audible alarms inform the user in time about interference, such as the critical liquid level, critical temperature or blocked pump. With the help of the integrated level detection the critical minimum and maximum level in the bath is automatically detected. This is done mechanically with the help of the built-in float and additionally electronically via the integrated temperature sensor.

All IKA thermostats fulfil the highest security classification III (FL) for use with flammable liquids in accordance with DIN 12876.

The unique and innovative Wireless Controller (WiCo), the detachable display of the control versions of the thermostats (except ICC control), enables safe and wireless control of thermostats from a distance of up to ten meters. So the operator safety is enhanced when working with toxic or volatile materials, such as under a fume hood.

Power
For decades, the subject of temperature control has been one of the core competencies of IKA. From this experience the development of the new thermostats benefited a lot.

The IKA heating and cooling thermostats are suitable for a temperature range from -20°C up to 250°C.

IKA heating thermostats achieve a temperature stability of ± 0.01 K. The power-controlled compressor of the circulator RC 2 enables a temperature stability of ± 0.02 K. The very large heating surface ensures the careful heating of the thermal fluids as well as an excellent heat transfer. The high heat output of up to 2,500 W and cooling power of 400 W ensure quick heat-up times. For operation at or below ambient temperature or for connection of a chiller, a cooling coil is available or already included.

Due to the excellent insulation and on-demand power control all IKA thermostats are very energy efficient. For standard applications the chiller RC 2 for example requires up to 60% less energy than comparable competitive devices.

All units operate with a powerful continuously variable PEEK pressure and suction pump (up to 0.7 bar and 26 l / min), which allows universal use for internal and external temperature applications in open and closed baths. It guarantees good mixing in the bath and provides a high flow rate for external applications.

Through the use of high quality materials IKA thermostats are designed for a long life. All parts which are in contact with the  product are made of stainless steel (V4A), highly resistant PEEK, PTFE and FKM and thus are ideally suited for working with food.

Intelligence
Standard USB and RS232 interfaces allow control and monitoring of the device functions with a PC (e.g. with the IKA software labworldsoft®). After registering on the IKA website you can always update to the latest software version of your device using the new Firmware Update Tool.

The internal and external temperature sensor (if available) can be adjusted with either 2 or 3-point calibration. If required, the calibration may also be performed at the factory by IKA service team.

All thermostats are characterised by a very user-friendly and intuitive operation via pushbutton and rotary knobs.

The control versions also offer many additional features and capabilities. On the detachable display all important process parameters (temperature settings, pump speed, safety and external temperature) can be displayed and read easily and clearly. The programming function can accommodate ten programs to perform individual procedures (e.g. programming of temperature ramps). The standard PT100 interface supplemented in the control version (for IC and HBC) with a multi-IO port (e.g. for control of solenoid valves).
