New Flow Chemistry System for Kilogram Production
Dec 14 2011
Chemtrix BV, has announced the introduction of a new Flow Chemistry system- KiloFlow®. Chemtrix’ KiloFlow® is the first turnkey flow chemistry system to scale continuous flow chemical processes from mg method development to hundreds of kilogram production without changing process parameters. KiloFlow® is developed in close cooperation with Janssen Pharmaceutica NV.
“KiloFlow® allows us to perform process development up to Phase 3 in a standard fume hood, without going to the pilot plant,” said Dr Luc Moens, Research Fellow at Janssen Research and development, a division of Janssen Pharmaceutica NV. “The wide working range under inert conditions, in a single system, allows the exploration of new chemical space whilst enabling kilo-lab operations to be performed in a standard laboratory fume hood.”
KiloFlow® is a turnkey system comprising of no clogging sensitive pumps, reactors, heat exchangers, temperature control and pressure regulation (measured in the reactor), designed to enable the process engineer to readily access ‘extreme’ conditions enabling the performance of highly exothermic reactions at -40°C to 195°C, at reaction times of ms to 37 minutes and pressure conditions of 20 bar, allowing previously ‘forbidden’ transformations and intensified processes to be executed within a conventional laboratory setting.
“We are proud to announce this new Flow Chemistry system”, commented Hugo Delissen, CEO of Chemtrix. “The KiloFlow® standard products give a unique set of specifications and working range which we can easily enlarge in customised systems using the same technology”.
