Heating samples so as to remove all organic content and produce an ash residue is one of the most common applications for laboratory furnaces and often the first step in a more detailed analysis. Nevertheless the variation in analysts’ requirements is such that Carbolite offers five standard types with a range of chamber sizes, temperatures and additional functionality.
The AAF 11 series furnaces have high levels of pre-heated airflow so that complete combustion of the sample is assured. The elements are fully shielded form accumulating carbon contamination, with three sizes to accommodate a variety of workloads. A higher temperature model the AAF 12/18 provides a higher maximum temperature for those users who may additionally to ashing need to heat treat materials on occasion.
Some materials generate corrosive or acidic vapours as they combust and is for these that the GSM 11/8 was designed. The vitreous chamber lining offers superior containment of aggressive vapours.
For the lighter ashing tasks of non-standard samples or use of taller crucibles, the BWF 1100°C and 1200°C models are available. These are also suitable for heat treatment applications.
Finally for those applications where the fumes from ashing must be completely combusted the ABF8/28 is equipped with a high temperature afterburner that treats the fumes from the primary ashing chamber.
