First Interacting Rotary Evaporating System
Jul 28 2011
To operate a rotary evaporator, it is essential to also have a cooling device and a vacuum pump alongside the rotary evaporator. A typical system consists of a PTFE membrane vacuum pump, a vacuum controller and tap water as a cooling medium.
In some cases it is not possible to use tap water. This is due to its availability, temperature, tap water pressure or other reasons. A recirculating chiller is generally used as an alternative cooling source.
A recirculating chiller also has some disadvantages. The major disadvantages are the heat and noise emissions as well as the energy consumption. In a considerable number of cases, the necessary space required for such a unit is also a problem.
Now there is an easy way to solve all these problems. BÜCHI now offers a system where the components interact with the vacuum controller. As aresult of this, the previously independent instruments, such as the vacuum pump and recirculating chiller, are now controlled by the vacuum controller. The vacuum controller on the rotary evaporator supervises the vacuum pump and the chiller so that they will run only when really needed. This means,
by stopping the distillation on the vacuum controller, starting the distillation process at the vacuum controller. The integrated solvent library also recommends and sets the optimal cooling temperature on the chiller, thereby preventing a too low temperature setting that would only generate heat, noise and costs. The operator not only saves water when using such a system but also reduces the energy costs (electricity) of the recirculating chiller. BÜCHI Labortechnik AG offers a wide range of systems with different versions of the Rotavapor. Especially the chiller for the industrial Rotavapor R-220 SE is unique for its design. It combines a strong 2,5kW chiller with a movable trolley and also space to host the vacuum pump. Wherever the chiller is used, from bench top to industrial size, it offers potential cost savings and makes the distillation process more comfortable.
