CLARIOstar Plus: The most flexible plate reader for assay development

Apr 30 2020

BMG LABTECH are celebrating 30 years as microplate reader specialists and the CLARIOstar® Plus is our most recent product innovation. This modular and upgradable instrument is configured with dedicated read technologies, meaning that the instrument is versatile without ever compromising on assay performance.

Innovative optical design technologies optimised for all read modes

Our patented Linear Variable Filter (LVF) MonochromatorTM, is recognised for providing the flexibility of a conventional monochromator with filter-like sensitivity and makes the CLARIOstar® Plus the most sensitive monochromator-based microplate reader. The adjustable bandwidth up to 100 nm enables users to design their own filter settings or reproduce any published filter specifications.

This reader offers the widest dynamic range available (<8 decades) for fluorescence and luminescence with its Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) function. EDR and full plate rapid autofocus combined ensure that the optimum measurement settings are used for every plate, eliminating the need for read optimisation or the risk of data saturation whether measuring low and high intensity samples on the same plate or in new unfamiliar kinetic assays.

A dedicated extended range PMT detector for fluorescence measures up to 900 nm. This provides industry leading performance in all assays with particular benefit when reading red and far-red dyes compared to traditional monochromator instruments.

A dedicated low noise PMT detector is used for luminescence and Alphascreen®/AlphaLISA® (AS/AL) measurements guaranteeing the best sensitivity. Advanced cross talk reduction tools also ensure that glow luminescence and AS/AL reads are not impacted by the varying signals of adjacent wells.

An ultra-fast UV/vis spectrometer is used for absorbance measurements, capable of acquiring complete spectra (220-1000 nm) or up to 8 discrete wavelengths in <1 sec/well. With no filters and without the slow scanning speeds of tradition monochromators, the spectrometer is perfect for all assays and especially those measuring spectra or spectral shift.

Creating physiological conditions for cell-based assays

Whether working with fastidious micro-organisms or studying cell biology, real time assays can be performed with the CLARIOstar® Plus and Atmospheric Control Unit (ACU). Temperature can be selected and maintained while the ACU allows independent regulation of oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. The software controlled ACU generates fixed or ramped gas conditions to mimic physiological conditions and can be used in the study of complex disease models including ischaemia/reperfusion.

Automation and Integration friendly platform

The CLARIOstar® Plus is compatible with all leading automation platforms. For standalone increased throughput a stacker is available for up to 50 plates. The reader can also be equipped with two integrated barcode readers, ideal for screening laboratories.
