New RFM960-C Peltier controlled refractometer  celebrates 100 years in instrument manufacturer

Mar 06 2015

Xylem’s Bellingham + Stanley celebrates its Centenary by launching the new RFM960-C refractometer; continuing the legacy of supplying the World’s leading food and beverage brands with the most reliable and accurate digital refractometers and polarimeters.

Delivering thermally stable results to 4 decimal places across a wide refractive index range (1.30-1.70), the new RFM960-C is not only ideal for use within the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors but is also particularly suited for measuring flavours and essences of high refractive index as well as fat content of cocoa, chocolate and meat, where dilution in monobromonapthalene is required to obtain a result.

The RFM960-C refractometer incorporates latest instrumentation technology.  A high-definition 4” colour display cleverly guides users through operator and set-up menus and a Methods system makes it easy to measure in a number of food based scales including ºBrix.

SMART thermal control rapidly equalises the sample temperature and displays the result only when pre-set criteria has been reached, such as sample temperature stability being held to within +/-0.02°C  for a number of consecutive readings; which is of particular importance when performing high-end refractive index work.

RFID swipe technology is standard, providing clearance and record of operation in FDA-controlled environments or where good practice is adopted, e.g. as part of HAACP.  Over 4,000 results can be saved or exported as secure PDF files via USB or Ethernet.

The RFM960-C is as robust as it is technologically advanced. The prism dish is shallow with PEEK spill barriers and an artificial sapphire prism and a Kalrez® gasket protects the instrument against damage by harsh chemicals such as aromatic oils.

Like most types of the refractometer, the RFM960-C may be verified for accuracy using UKAS Certified Reference Materials, also available from Bellingham + Stanley.
