Highly accurate on-site alcohol measurement on spirits

Feb 22 2018

With alcohol measurements accurate to 0.1 %v/v, Snap 51 is the most accurate portable digital alcohol meter available on the market. Samples are taken directly from the storage tank or cask via the built-in pump and measured on-site within 30 seconds.

All glass hydrometers in a distillery are replaced by the robust digital instrument, which covers the whole relevant measuring range from 0 %v/v to 100 %v/v. While a glass hydrometer only covers a limited measuring range on its scale, Snap 51 measures distilled spirits with no sugar added, whether they are pure and of high alcoholic strength or watered down to drinkable strength. The instrument simplifies the whole distillation and watering down procedure in distilleries.

The results, shown in %v/v or °Proof on the big colour display, are already compensated for the temperature influence which makes manual corrections and searching for numbers in correction tables a thing of the past. A measurement is simply started via a gesture, enabling one-hand operation during the measuring procedure. More than 1000 measured results are stored in the instrument’s data memory and can be printed or exported to a PC via Bluetooth®. This not only results in enormous time savings but also eliminates the potential user influence on the result and leaves no chance for errors. Via an RFID tag at the sampling location, Snap 51 identifies the sample name to be set for the following measurement, ensuring full traceability of all stored results.

A highly accurate instrument from the market leader

Snap 51 derives the alcohol concentration from the density value, measured using the oscillating U-tube technology. Anton Paar is the market leader for highly accurate alcohol and density meters based on this technology, which is the industrial standard for large-scale distilleries as well as for governmental organisations and craft distilleries. Due to its outstanding accuracy, Snap 51 will be of interest to microdistilleries and also to industrial spirits producers and alcohol processing companies, wherever quick checks are needed during production or in intake control as a supplement to using lab analysis equipment.
