Easy Sample Temperature Measurement
Sep 08 2013
When using a polarimeter to determine the concentration of a dissolved chiral substance it is essential to know the exact temperature of the sample. This is so important because the temperature dependence of the specific rotation is part of Biot’s law. In addition to knowing the exact sample temperature, it must also be guaranteed that there is thermal equilibrium in the sample cell and that the temperature does not change during the measurement.
The MCP polarimeter series from Anton Paar provides innovative solutions for these requirements. The sample cell is completely surrounded by a Peltier element, which guarantees quick temperature control and a homogenous temperature distribution in the sample with an accuracy of up to ± 0.03°C over a temperature range of 15°C to 45°C. The measuring resolution is up to ± 0.01°C. These features ensure robust and reproducible measurements. As an additional safeguard against streaks in the sample solution caused by temperature gradients, a picture of the sample cell is taken with each measurement via the integrated camera. This is automatically stored in the measuring protocol along with the measured temperature and the serial number of the used sample cell. The MCP polarimeters therefore meet the requirements of international pharmacopoeia and 21 CFR Part 11.
The MCP polarimeters from Anton Paar therefore measure the actual temperature of your samples very easily.
