New Video Educates on Non-invasive Tests to Differentiate IBS and IBD
Nov 12 2012
The symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and organic inflammatory intestinal disease (IBD) can be very similar in presentation and have traditionally been differentiated using colonoscopy investigations. These can be stressful to patients, carry some risks and are costly to the NHS.
Now, in vitro measurement of faecal calprotectin is a proven diagnostic differentiator, being elevated in patients with IBD, but not in those suffering from IBS. High concentrations correlate well with both endoscopic and histological assessment of disease activity.
A new video describing methods for faecal calprotectin measurement, suitable for use both at Point of Care and in the laboratory, is now available at www.alphalabs.co.uk/calprotectin. It details the BÜhlmann Quantum Blue Rapid Calprotectin Test that gives a quantitative result in just 12 minutes. Based on lateral flow technology this test is easy to use, with a simple and rapid extraction and test process.
The video includes interviews with Chris Moore, Head of Marketing at BÜhlmann Laboratories and Dr Arne Roseth, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Lovisenberg Hospital, Oslo. It also shows demonstrations of the kit in use in Dr Roseth’s laboratory.
Alpha Laboratories is highly experienced in the measurement of human faecal calprotectin and offers the widest range of test formats for this marker. Whether you want to perform the test within primary care, in the Gastroenterology clinic or the hospital laboratory, there is a choice of format to best suit your needs.
