Getting to the Bottom of Plates
Jun 13 2017
Choosing the right microplate for your application is key to the success of your experiments. The Alpha Laboratories static-free microplates and lids are manufactured from uncoated, transparent polystyrene. The sturdy construction means they can be centrifuged and are safe to use within a wide temperature range. Standard 96-well microplates are supplied both sterile and non-sterile in 3 different bottom designs to suit various applications.
U-well microplates have a round shaped well bottom. These are best suited for applications that require stirring or washing of samples. The absence of sharp corners makes them ideal for agglutination tests.
The conical shaped bottom of the V-well microplates maximises sample recovery as the sample collects right in the centre of the well, making them especially suited for precipitation assays and storage.
F-Well microplates have a flat well bottom primarily designed for precise optical measurements. They are well suited for colorimetric determinations as well as microscopy applications and cell culture.
The perfect partner for any of these plates is the revolutionary SealMate™ System. This moulded polypropylene dispenser, with a hinged “clamshell” design and sealing films supplied in a novel sheeted-roll configuration, makes adhesive plate sealing quick and easy.
Individual films on the roll are delineated by non-adhesive colour bands that serve as end-tabs for positioning the films on the microplates. Each band contains two perforations, the first tears easily to separate the sheet being dispensed from the next sheet on the roll. The second perforation permits the end-tab to be removed from the plate once the film has been applied. These unique features contribute to SealMate’s convenience and usability.
What’s more the SealMate system reduces laboratory waste because the film is rolled on itself with no extra paper or plastic liner to be discarded before sealing the plate, and the handy dispenser has a smooth lower surface which can be used to press the film onto the plate.
