Cryogenic
Cryopreservation with Confidence
Oct 05 2023
Cooling biological materials to very low temperatures, under controlled conditions, preserves structures and viability for further study. Traditional cryopreservation is a highly effective method for storing cells and tissues, by keeping them in “suspended animation”. At temperatures below the glass transition point of water (-135°C) virtually all biological functions and metabolic activity stop and biological molecules within, cells such as enzymes, are preserved. Ultra-low temperature storage -80°C and cryopreservation <150°C are widely used in research and development applications for many types of plant and animal materials but also have a lot of valuable clinical uses such as in vitro fertilisation.
However, damage can be caused by the formation of ice crystals during freezing, so cryopreservation methods may include controlled rate and slow freezing, vitrification or the addition of cryoprotectants to provide protection.
Alpha Laboratories offers the BAMBANKER™ serum free cell freezing medium cryoprotectant, alongside its extensive range of cryovials and racks for ultra-low temperature storage of research specimens.
Bambanker is designed to preserve delicate cells, including lymphocytes, during medium and long term ultra-low temperature storage. It is ready-to-use with no dilution or additions necessary. No stepwise temperature reductions or a programmable freezer are required. Now, BAMBANKER™ Direct offers an improved workflow solution by removing a step in the freezing process. It can be added directly to culture media with no centrifugation required. Cell suspensions can then be transferred to cryogenic vials for immediate, long-term storage at -80°C or to preserve valuable cell cultures.
If you need to preserve your laboratory samples, specimens and reagents at extremely low temperatures, Alpha Laboratories' cryogenic vials and storage solutions provide a secure, economical and cool solution. The ‘Feel the Seal’ Cryovials are internally threaded with a silicone O-ring. They have a fast opening/closure requiring only 1 ¼ turns with an internal rounded base for easy recovery of samples. The tubes are certified free from RNase, DNase, Pyrogens, human DNA and metals and are CE marked.
The cryogenic workstations securely hold up to 50 free-standing vials and are ideal when working with large batches of samples. They have an integral locking ring and anti-skid rubber feet to enable single handed tube opening.
