Flow Injection Polymer Analysis For Quality & Process Control
Jan 18 2009
Viscotek has released an on-demand version of its recent webinar entitled, ‘Flow Injection Polymer Analysis For Quality & Process Control’. The webinar was delivered to let chemists gain an insight into a fast, precise, accurate and reliable technique that provides simultaneous measurement of molecular weight, molecular size, intrinsic viscosity and data on branching or copolymer composition. Chaired by Viscotek senior scientist, Dr Wei Sen Wong, the webinar www.viscotek.com includes presentations that provide useful background to the FIPA technique, describe a typical system configuration and discuss the principles behind the light scattering and viscometer detectors in the multidetector system. In addition the webinar includes a wide
range of applications examples covering real-world samples, and discusses how the FIPA technique can be fully automated.
The proprietary FIPA technique is based upon a fast chromatographic means of separating polymers from the low molecular weight matrix of additives, monomers, or solvent they may be mixed with. The separated polymer is then detected by a proprietary triple-detector system, and the resulting peaks analysed to obtain properties of the polymer. The FIPA technique yields precise and accurate average molecular weight, molecular size, intrinsic viscosity and data on branching or copolymer composition in only a few minutes, without the need for elaborate sample preparation. Robust and easy to configure, the Viscotek FIPA system operates up to 80C allowing screening of most polymers including polycarbonates, polyacrylates, olefins, rubbers, polyimides, polystyrene, and polyvinylalcohol.
