Maintaining Nitrite Standards: The Crucial Role of the ATNA in Ensuring Pharmaceutical Quality Control
Oct 10 2023
Pharmaceutical manufacturers are faced with the formidable challenge of effectively managing nitrosamine levels in their product lines. One effective approach to tackle this issue is by closely monitoring the nitrite levels within the products themselves. However, accurately establishing the level of nitrite content at low ppb levels has proven to be a difficult task using existing technology and methods.
Ellutia has developed the Automated Total Nitrosamine Analyser (ATNA). While commonly used for nitrosamine screening, the ATNA also possesses the ability to rapidly screen for total nitrite content at low ppb levels.
The ATNA system is designed to handle a wide range of sample types with minimal sample preparation. Samples are conveniently placed into headspace vials along with a reagent mixture. The Robotic Autosampler then performs the necessary chemical reaction, and the headspace is directly injected into the Ellutia TEA Detector for analysis. This innovative approach eliminates the need for compound separation, providing a single, comprehensive result for the total content. Moreover, specially developed solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridges can be utilised to differentiate between signals emitted by nitrosamine and nitrite compounds.
Users can swiftly screen samples for both nitrosamine and nitrite content, thereby gaining greater confidence and visibility into potential issues. This invaluable capability allows them to strategically allocate their resources where they matter most.
