More and more CD spectroscopists are choosing Chirascan™

Mar 03 2010

With exceptional performance the Chirascan™ range of circular dichrosim spectrometers now enable measurements of biomolecules and their interactions that have not previously been possible.

Optimised solutions for use in biotherapeutic drug development and formulation testing are available giving structural, thermodynamic and aggregation data simultaneously in one hour with as little as 50ug of protein.

By incorporating innovative optical design features to maximise light throughput and intuitive software for data analysis the instruments have outstanding sensitivity and are easy to use.

The rapid acceptance of Chirascan™ is because the instruments offer performance that is simply not available with other CD spectrometers. Superior data can now be obtained easily and quickly with out the need for large amounts of sample. Examples include:

  • Thermodynamic, structural and aggregation data in a single experiment with as little as 50µg of protein
  • Sample-efficient stopped-flow kinetics with simultaneous CD, absorbance and fluorescence detection
  • Genuine, far-UV reach for accurate secondary structure determination
  • Low sample-volume near-UV measurements for insights into tertiary structural behaviour

Chirascan™-Plus DMS is the most advanced instrument in the range and is an optimised solution for use in biotherapeutic drug development. In a recent formulation study of a biotherapeutic antibody the technology was not only used to identify melting point transitions as an indicator of stability but also enabled the propensity for aggregation to be taken into consideration when making decisions.

A stopped flow accessory can be coupled to Chirascan™ instruments for studying how the structure of a biomolecule changes following interaction with another molecular entity or to study refolding mechanisms on dilution of a chemical denaturant. Simultaneous measurement of absorbance, fluorescence and circular dichroism maximises the information return on the sample investment.
