Anthias Consulting launch metabolomics training courses
Oct 05 2016
Training and consultancy providers Anthias Consulting have launched a range of courses within the field of biochemistry, with two Metabolomics training courses scheduled in November at The Open University, Milton Keynes, UK.
The Absolute Basics of Metabolomics is aimed at those with little or no knowledge of the subject and offers a one-day introduction covering the history, development and current use of Metabolomics in fields such as clinical, environmental and biotechnology applications. The course will give a summary of the workflows in a Metabolomics study and outline the considerations when designing an experiment or study. The course will also cover processing, preparation and statistical analysis of mass spectrometry data including an overview of Multivariate Statistical Analysis techniques for 'Biomarker Discovery' and the methods and tools used for creating and mapping data to Metabolic Pathways.
The advanced four-day Data Analysis for Metabolomics will provide training in the integrated set of software packages available to analysts performing Metabolomic studies using Agilent-based mass spectrometry platforms. Through a combination of classroom-based presentations and practical hands-on data analysis exercises, the course will provide a working knowledge of the principles and practice of Metabolomics for Agilent instrument users for either Discovery or Targeted analysis and covers how to use the available tools to process raw data; identify compounds; undertake statistical analysis and map Metabolomic data to biological pathways.
The courses have been developed in conjunction with Metabolic specialist Dr Simon Thain of TL Science. Anthias Consulting’s training facility is hosted by Dr Geraint (Taff) Morgan within the School of Physical Sciences at The Open University. The venue provides an unrivalled suite of world-class analytical instrumentation in modern laboratories and has established a track-record of developing sector disruptive solutions for customer-led challenges, building on the success and the expertise behind the Ptolemy instrument, on the Rosetta mission.
The courses are scheduled so that delegates can choose to attend the one-day introductory course on 21st November 2016, prior to attending the advanced four-day course, which starts on the following day.
Anthias Consulting has been delivering training and consultancy in Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry and related techniques for the past 11 years, training hundreds of delegates from around the world, covering a variety of applications and industries. Their approach - working with both the analysts who use the GC instrumentation and the instrument manufacturers – enables them to provide independent advice and help their customers really get the best out of their analytical systems. Their trainers are practicing analytical chemists with industry experience and current skills. The majority of training courses are approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry for Continuing Professional Development.
Anthias Consulting founder and director Diane Turner, said: “We deliver training and consultancy in a broad range of industries and meet professionals looking for training in a range of related fields and analytical techniques. These new courses provide a natural cross-over for us into this exciting field and expand our training portfolio for current and future clients.”
